Rachel Carson was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale, Pennsylvania. In 1925, Carson went to Pennsylvania College for women. In 1929, she graduated with honors, from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1932, she mastered in Zoology from Johns Hopkins University. She was a writer, scientist, ecologist, environmentalist, and a marine biologist.
Her most famous book, "Silent Spring", was published in 1962. She became very famous for this book. Also, she discovered the microscope. Rachel's mother taught her nature for hours a day. Carson's mom was also a school teacher and a musician, so she could teach Rachel her many talents and skills.
In the summer, Rachel worked at Woods Hole Marine Biological Lab in Mass. She taught at the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins. In 1936, she became a writer, and she worked at the U.S Bureau of Fisheries. Later in her career, she became a staff biologist, and finally in 1949, the chief editor.
Rachel died at age 56, on April 14, 1964, in Silver Spring Maryland.
